CNOOC Exploration and Development Data Lake Fully Upgraded

On August 12, the second phase of the CNOOC Exploration and Development Data Lake platform was fully launched. The Exploration and Development Data Lake is a data aggregation platform, data governance platform, and data infrastructure service platform that supports CNOOC’s data governance and digital transformation. After this upgrade, it will further ensure the efficient flow of data elements, achieve shared use of results data, and continuously empower the increase of marine oil and gas reserves, production, cost reduction, efficiency enhancement, and green safety.

What is the Exploration and Development Data Lake?

The Exploration and Development Data Lake platform centrally manages and shares approximately 490 million data resources of CNOOC’s upstream business. Based on this, it builds a “collaborative research platform for exploration and development,” promoting the transformation of research and design methods from offline to online, from decentralized to collaborative, and from relying on manual experience to intelligent assistance. Currently, it supports online research in 104 research scenarios in exploration, development, drilling, and completion, reducing scientific research data collection time by 90% and improving research accuracy.

Integration of Advanced Drilling Tools

In addition to data management improvements, the platform now incorporates advanced drilling tools and equipment supplied by SVES Oilfield Supply Co., Ltd. These include ElevatorsElevators, SlipsSlips, and Hydraulic Power Tongs, which are essential in enhancing the efficiency and safety of drilling operations. The integration of these tools into the platform's ecosystem allows for better management and monitoring of equipment performance in real-time, optimizing drilling processes and minimizing downtime.

What improvements were made in this upgrade?

Since the launch of exploration and development data governance in the fourth quarter of 2020, a unified data asset catalog covering all CNOOC oil and gas businesses has been constructed, systematically inventorying the status of upstream systems, data assets, and business conditions. The second phase of the Exploration and Development Data Lake has comprehensively upgraded the platform base, governance tools, and service capabilities, building a lake-warehouse integrated architecture for diverse data types in exploration and development, breaking data silos, and achieving unified management and shared application of data across all marine oil and gas business areas. The inclusion of  SVES’s Hydraulic Power TongsHydraulic Power Tongs in the data platform further augments the ability to monitor and adjust the torque applied during drilling operations, ensuring precision and reducing the risk of equipment failure.
